An 84-year-old woman in Florida is dead after the vehicle she was riding in got rear-ended by another vehicle in a multi-car crash on Florida’s Turnpike.
Reports indicate that the accident happened around 6:23 p.m. on Monday, June 22. The vehicles were heading south. A pickup truck and a van both slowed down as traffic began to slow around them. Unfortunately, a second van did not slow down and slammed into the back of the first. That pushed the van into the pickup truck.
There was a 55-year-old man in the pickup. He was not injured. However, a 64-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man in the rear van were both hurt. The woman was behind the wheel, the man was a front-seat passenger and the 84-year-old woman was a rear-seat passenger. She was killed in the crash.
In the van that got hit was another 64-year-old woman, who was also driving the vehicle, and two female children. All three of them ended up with serious injuries.
It does not take long for a rear-end accident to happen; just one moment of inattention or one mistake in processing how traffic is slowing down can be enough. As this case shows, that single moment can put numerous people in the hospital, and it can even change the lives of family members who lose loved ones in these accidents. Crashes like this are common during rush hour, in traffic jams and as vehicles pass through work zones with restricted lanes and lower speed limits.
Those who get injured do need to know how to seek financial compensation for their losses. Family members of those who are killed may also be entitled to compensation for their financial losses.
