A family from Massachusetts wanted to go to Florida’s Disney World for a vacation in the colder months of the year, but the exciting trip took a tragic turn. The van they were in got involved in a traffic accident and four family members, spanning three generations, passed away.
Per reports, the accident happened on Feb. 18 at close to 5:30 p.m. The family was riding in their van on Route 429. At that time, most areas have to deal with at least some level of rush hour traffic. Sure enough, the van got caught in heavy traffic and had to slow down.
As they did so, a pickup truck driving behind them failed to follow suit. It is unclear why the driver did not slow down, and authorities are still investigating the incident to determine why it happened, but the truck plowed into the back of the family’s vehicle.
The accident took the lives of a 41-year-old mother, her 5-year-old daughter and that young girl’s 76-year-old grandmother. They all passed away at the crash site. The woman’s 11-year-old son was also severely injured, and emergency crews rushed him to a nearby hospital to put him on life support. A day later, he also passed away.
It appears that the children’s 43-year-old father was driving the van, and he lived through the crash. The mother and children also leave behind two other daughters.
Clearly, financial compensation is a small consolation in a tragic case like this. However, surviving family members need to know what options they have after a deadly crash so that they can cover the costs during this stressful time.
