It’s well-known that children love stickers. For adults, they might seem trivial. But the Woman’s Club of Panama City is behind a program that will use stickers in a very important way: to help children in the event of a car crash or other traffic emergency.
It’s a clever notion, and we wonder why it hasn’t been thought of sooner. The program, called, WHALE, which stands for “We Have a Little Emergency,” uses stickers placed on a child’s car seat and on the car, to provide law enforcement and emergency medical personnel with information about your child.
Parents do all they can to keep their children safe, but in the event of a collision or other emergency, parents themselves may be hurt or otherwise unable to help their children. That’s when the stickers come into play. The stickers will provide emergency contact information and notification that the child is enrolled in the program to first responders. That way, it’s easier for law enforcement to contact the people you would want to care for your child in the event that something happens to you, especially when a your identification can’t immediately be found in the vehicle. The stickers can also provide info about any medical conditions a child may have.
The chairwoman of the WHALE program realized her goal of implementing it after years of effort, according to wfsu.org. Her concerns about her granddaughter, who has Type 1 diabetes, prompted her to find a way for medical personnel know about the granddaughter’s condition in situations like Woman’s Club of Panama City Kicks Off W.H.A.L.E.
