A young woman in Florida always wanted to work as a cast member at Disney World. She finally got her dream when she landed an internship.
Just a month later, though, that dream ended when she was hit by a drunk driver. Reports claim that she was in a car with a friend, and they had completely stopped moving. Unfortunately, the drunk driver behind them did not stop in time and rear-ended their vehicle.
The devastating accident severed nerves in her spine. She also injured three of her vertebrae: The C3, C4 and C5. That, according to her sister, has left her paralyzed everywhere below her neck.
“She is currently in ICU on a ventilator waiting to see if she can breathe on her own,” he sister said. She noted that, even if she could, she would only be able to work toward a “new normal.” Her life as she knew it was over.
This tragic case shows that even non-fatal accidents can have an incredible impact on a person’s life. This young woman was just starting her career and the life she had always dreamed about, but all of that changed in a split second. Like many people with severe injuries, she may never fully recover. It can be emotionally draining and very expensive, not to mention the physical pain and discomfort she may feel.
Have you gotten injured in an accident like this, or has a loved one suffered serious injuries? If so, you need to know if you have a right to financial compensation to help you through this difficult time.
