Florida is dangerous for drivers, no matter how you sort the data

Looking at national car accident rates and fatality numbers does not always help to show people the risks they face on the road. The reality is that those risks vary drastically from one location to another, and some states rank much higher than others in terms of risk. It's important to break this down to see the types of dangers you actually face every day.

Unfortunately, no matter how you sort the data, Florida is one of the most dangerous states in the nation. That's just a truth that all drivers need to accept every time they get on the road.

Let's start with the overall statistics. In 2018, reports show that there were 3,133 deaths in car accidents. The only states that rank higher than Florida are California and Texas.

Now, you may say that Florida has a large population, which is why it sees so many deadly accidents. That's true, but, when you sort the data to deaths per 100,000 people, there are 14.7. Florida is a little better in this regard, but there are only 11 states with higher totals. The risk is still very high.

Another way to look at it is in deaths per 100 million miles driven. In Florida, there are 1.41. There are only 10 states in the country with higher death rates in this category.

So, while population and miles driven do play a role, the statistics make it very clear that the risk is high regardless of how you sort the data. If you get injured in a crash or lose a loved one, you may be able to seek compensation.
