Sewer trench collapses on 2 workers in Florida

One worker is in the hospital and the other has passed away after a sewer project led to a tragic trench collapse in Florida.

The two construction workers were in the trench at the time of the collapse and they were trapped when it caved in around them. Incidents like this can cause thousands of pounds of dirt and rock to shift in mere seconds. Workers often have no way to get out of the trench in time when a collapse begins.

The trench was being dug for a sewer project and it went through a roadway. At about 1:45 p.m. on May 4, it collapsed. Workers could not get them out and first responders were sent to the scene. They did free them and both were sent to medical centers.

The man who lived was brought to Orlando Regional Medical Center. His condition was considered stable and, as of the latest reports, he has been released from the hospital. The other worker was brought to Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital, and it does appear he was alive at the time. Unfortunately, he passed away at the medical center.

The Longwood Police Department was among those who responded to the incident. At this time, an investigation is still being carried out to see why the collapse occurred.

Workplace accidents not only lead to serious injuries for workers who survive, but they can also lead to fatalities that leave family members reeling. This is a very difficult position for these families, and it is important for them to fully understand their legal options.
