2 killed in fall from 7-story construction job in Florida

It is always important for those working in construction to follow strict protocols. They have to make sure their equipment is in good condition and used accurately. If not, it could end up leading to injuries or deaths like in this case involving three workers in Orlando.

In a horrifying situation that should have been preventable, two workers died in a scaffolding collapse that occurred near Walt Disney World in Florida. The Aug. 29 report states that the two workers fell from scaffolding as they were pouring concrete into a 16-story hotel. Orange County sheriff's officials stated that the men were on the seventh floor of the hotel at the time of the incident.

It is not yet known why the support structure gave way, but two of the three people who were working on the structure fell to their deaths. One person was able to hold on and climbed to safety following the accident, narrowly surviving. The other men died at the scene prior to the arrival of emergency workers.

The project the men were working on has been described by Marriott International as a 16-story resort. It will have 516 rooms placed near Orlando's many theme parks. A speaker on behalf of Marriott has stated that they feel the accident was tragic and are praying for the families. Presently, construction is being managed by DCS Investment Holdings. At the time of the report, the company had no comment, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will investigate to make sure no violations occurred and that safety protocols are followed.

The family of workers who perish while on the job have a right to collect death benefits from workers' compensation. If the claim is denied, an attorney can inform them of their next steps.
